Emmy Rossum didn’t mind stripping off on the set of her new TV show because her co-star is like her “brother”. The 23-year-old actress shares several steamy scenes with Justin Chatwin in upcoming Showtime series Shameless, which is due to premiere on US television in January. It is the first time Emmy has shot topless scenes, but she didn’t find the experience intimidating because she and her co-star are such good friends. “It’s new for me,” Emmy told People magazine. “I was really comfortable with Justin. “He’s kind of like my brother. Well, I shouldn’t say he’s like my brother. But we’re that comfortable with each other, so it didn’t feel weird.” Emmy plays the eldest daughter of a large family who is left to raise her younger siblings while her father drinks his wages away. The series sounds depressing, but Emmy insists it is actually upbeat and full of humor. “It’s really outrageous and funny, the way it’s told and depicted,” she said. “Nothing’s taken too seriously. So even though it’s a hard circumstance, the family has an incredible will to survive. And there’s a lot of funny naked drunkenness.”

In the upcoming Showtime series Shameless, Emmy Rossum stars as an 18-year-old who has to fend for herself and her five siblings because her father (William H. Macy) is a drunk and her mother is M.I.A. The series is a remake of the British show of the same name, It’s Rossum’s first time as a regular on a television series — and it’ll also mark another first for her. “It is my first time being naked on screen,” she tells RadarOnline. “It is definitely a little stressful, but I think you just gotta rock whatever God gave you, and be proud of it.” Rossum also joked that filming the scenes was more difficult because the show was shot in high definition. “Naked in HD is a little more stressful,” she said. “I’ll hope for the best. Hope for good lighting.”

Big-wigged drag queens took over West 48th St. for the revival of La Cage aux Folles, composed by Jerry Herman, at the Longacre Theater. The occasion marked Kelsey Grammer’s return to Broadway after his short-lived Shakespeare stint 10 years ago. “I think if Macbeth were in this situation, he’d probably just kill everybody,” Grammer joked at the very post-performance party at Providence. Partygoers included Grammer’s Frasier co-star David Hyde Pierce, thesp Emmy Rossum and her boyfriend, Adam Duritz, frontman for Counting Crows, who was overheard discussing his new musical with playwright Stephen Belber.

The May-December couple have been dating since September — one month after Emmy split from secret husband Justin Siegel. Of their relationship, the Phantom of the Opera star says “I’m very happy. He’s too special.” Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox Arquette and Mary-Louise Parker would agree, considering they were also wooed by the dreadlocked 45-year-old musician. What’s her secret? “Try to sleep a lot,” she tells. “I know everyone says that, but it’s really true. And exercise. It raises your endorphin level and makes you happy. It’s something you can do for yourself to clear your head. Hopefully you’re not looking at your cell phone during your class or when you’re on the treadmill, and you can zone out with your music and relax.”
How much sleep does Emmy typically get? “Last night it was three because I was on a plane and curled up in a very awkward position, but usually it’s eight,” she says. “I’m a pretty solid sleeper.”
