QUOTES
About singing: "I think I kind of came out of the womb singing. I think I was, like, born at the hospital, and, you know, popped out, and was singing. ... I'm not sure really how it happened. I can't remember a time when I wasn't singing, or banging a beat on the dinner table...you know, pissing somebody off with the rhythms and singing at the top of my lungs. So I think it was just a logical transition, really, to stick me in the opera. I think every kid finds a way to express themselves, whether it's through soccer, or education, or academic achievement, or violin, or singing – and that's just what it was for me."

About acting: "It's like Descartes' theory of a ball of wax. You can change its form from solid to liquid, but it's still the same ball of wax. With acting, you're the same person in a different form. You can only be what you know, and you only truly know yourself."

About fame: "Fame has never been an aspiration - I got into this because I loved performing."

About the music she listens to: "Definitely since I left the opera, my musical tastes have become much more eclectic. I'm much more influenced now by Evanescence, Sarah McLachlan, Jewel, those kinds of people. Um, I mean, even Eminem – those kinds of people are on my iPod."

About the change from opera to TV: "The first time that I got to a set, which was "As the World Turns," I said to my mom, "God, it's so small. Where are all the animals and the horses and the donkeys?" Because I worked with Franco Zefferelli where he did these huge magnificent performances of "Carmen" and ... "A Midsummer Night's Dream." ... Where are the 4,000 extras and horses and donkeys?"

About her past future plans: "I wanted to be an astronaut or a doctor. I was great in science. All the other girls in my class wanted to be actresses. They used to go into the library and look through the old yearbooks for Gwyneth Paltrow's picture."

About her favourite designer Ralph Lauren: "He's a friend. I really admire him and I love his aesthetic - really clean and feminine and classy."

About clubbing: "Some girls like clubbing every night, and I'm so happy for them. But it's not for me."

About her rolemodel Halle Berry: "She's a terrific actress, and breathtakingly beautiful. She finds a great balance between making big blockbusters and smaller movies that are obviously labors of love."

About a funny moment on the set of Passionada: "I did a scene in Passionada where I walked into my house. We didn't rehearse it and on the first three takes I couldn't get the door open."

About school & being an actress at the same time: "It’s so funny. Every time I sit down in the classroom, my book bag rings and it’s my cellphone, and it’s Joel (Schumacher) or Clint (Eastwood) going, ‘Do you want to do this movie? — and I can’t turn an opportunity like that down."

Jake Gyllenhaal about their kiss in "The Day After Tomorrow": "Emmy was, like, tongue down the throat and the whole thing!"

Joel Schumacher, director for "The Phantom Of The Opera": "She’s 16 years old, a fabulous girl. She’s this very energetic New York girl but when she played an Appalachian girl in this movie Songcatcher, I honestly thought they’d found some local girl for the role."

Andrew Lloyd Webber: "She is a wonderfully pure soprano, with an exceptional range. But more than this she also brings real character into the voice - so rare for her age."
